Berner Generationenhaus
The Bern Generationenhaus (house of the generations) of the Burgergemeinde, until recently a closed ensemble reserved for only a few, has established itself as a place of encounter. Here, in the centre of the city, a free space opens up for events, discussions and culture. Without compulsion to consume. Various social institutions are housed in the historic building. They offer support and advice for all age groups: Young people, fathers, mothers, people in old age.
The events enable a dialogue on various social issues. How do we want to live in the future? What will we eat? Dialogue - not only between generations, but between all social groups - is the basis for peaceful coexistence.
The concept of generations is central to the definition of sustainable development: we must use the earth's resources responsibly so that present and future generations worldwide can live a life in dignity. What is needed is intergenerational justice in which the needs of future generations are taken into account.
