Transforming our world: Agenda 2030 for sustainable development
With the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the international community has agreed on a vision for the future of a world at peace, where no one has to suffer from hunger, ecosystems on land and in water are protected and consumption and production do not exceed planetary boundaries. The 2030 Agenda was adopted by Switzerland and all UN member states in 2015 with the promise to realise its goals by 2030.
The 17 SDGs are the core of the 2030 Agenda and are to be achieved globally and by all UN member states by 2030. The challenges differ depending on the country: the rich, industrialised countries must massively reduce resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Developing countries must fight poverty and hunger, and expand access to health, education and energy without overexploiting the climate and the planet.
The 2030 Agenda can only be achieved if all 17 SDGs are met. Implementation must leave no one behind: sustainable development must become a reality for all.
