SDG 14: LIFE BELOW WATER
By 2025, marine pollution from plastic and other waste, as well as from fertilisers, is to be significantly reduced.
Marine and coastal ecosystems to be protected and sustainably managed by 2020. 10% of coastal and marine areas to be placed under protection.
Overfishing is to be ended, as well as illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and destructive fishing practices. Fish stocks are to be allowed to recover so that they can be used sustainably. Fisheries subsidies that contribute to overfishing or illegal fishing should be abolished.
Current situation:
Worldwide: About 1/3 of fish stocks are overfished. ourworldindata.org: How much of the world’s fish is managed sustainably?
