SDG 12: SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
Everyone can contribute to SDG 12: the state with sustainable public procurement, businesses with sustainable practices and circular economy, and consumers with sustainable lifestyles. Sustainable tourism creates local jobs and promotes local culture and local products.
Food losses are reduced. Food waste is halved.
The handling of chemicals and waste is to become environmentally sound by 2020. Chemicals should no longer escape or seep into the air, water or soil.
Subsidies for fossil fuels are to be phased out. Care is to be taken to ensure that no new poverty is created.
Current situation:
Worldwide: Every minute, the oil industry receives 11 million US$ in subsidies. (Fossil fuel industry gets subsidies of $11m a minute, IMF finds. Guardian, 6.10.2021)
Switzerland: In Switzerland, 2.8 million tonnes of food are disposed of every year. That's 330 kg of food per person. (https://foodwaste.ch)
